dc.description.abstract As parents get busier and busier, and families ever more far flung, the need for assistance in taking care of their children is increasing. There is a trend in modern social robotics toward household appliances. On the other hand, as robotics evolve, robots are obtaining richer functionality and robotic systems are becoming much more complex. It is believed that robots can be used as parental assistants. This thesis proposes a low cost child monitoring robotic system connected to a cloud that has capabilities for child detection, child tracking, cry signal processing, child entertainment, alerting parents if anomalous behavior is found. Also it facilitates video interaction between a child and a parent. The purpose of the proposed work is to augment the parents ability to ensure the safety and security of the childs environment. en_US
