dc.description.abstract Business process design is an extremely important task that can lead to the success of an organization. It not only enables an organization to rapidly adjust business processes according to new requirements, but it also improves the effectiveness of existing business processes. This thesis proposes a way to help business process designers rapidly analyze and design business processes for an organization. Concretely, the thesis proposes a new approach called “activity recommendation,” to help designers quickly find relevant activities for a specific position in a working business process. To find the relevant activities for activity recommendation, the proposed approach takes into account the neighborhood context of activities in the business processes. Concretely, the activity neighborhood context is defined as the sequence of connection elements connecting an associated activity to its neighbors. My method compares activity neighborhood contexts of different activities to identify similar activities. Finally, recommendations are generated based on the computed similarities. The experiments in this thesis are performed on a large public dataset of business processes, and the results show that the approach of activity recommendation is efficient and feasible for making recommendations. The approach is implemented and integrated with an open source business process modeling tool. en_US
