dc.description.abstract Making a decision on site selection domain (location planning) is an important aspect of sustainable land use planning. A spatial decision support (SDSS) is one kind of decision support system (DSS) that contains spatial data. It supports multi-criteria decision problems that require the evaluation of several spatial criteria and spatial data such as site construction cost, installation cost, and operation cost. In this study, a spatial decision support system to support site selection for convenience stores was proposed. The aim of the study is to develop a spatial decision support system for site selection in an interactive and graphic environment with convenience store data. It helps decision makers to identify the best location for opening a new convenience store based on the user judgments and related criteria such as customer traffic, target customer information, competitors, accessibility level, utility expenses, etc. The system architecture is based on the combination of three techniques; geographic information system (GIS), analytical hierarchical process (AHP), and decision rules. The combination of these three techniques aims to help decision makers to find a best suitable location to open a new convenience store through the interactive system and rich graphical user interface and also increase the system efficiency. To evaluate the proposed system, the comparison between proposed system and the currently used methodology in convenience store site selection context, a paper-based work, was conducted with the same data preparation. The evaluation shows that the proposed system is suitable for convenience store site selection. Moreover, most of the evaluators agree that this system provides sufficient tools to support their business and can bring their competitive advantage. en_US
