dc.description.abstract Building interactive architectures on MAN ET posses many challengers and opens a wide area of research. One of the pr imary areas of research is th e efficient resource discovery for the effective performance and stability of these interactive applications. The thesis proposes an architecture of efficient deploymen t of interactive appli cations with a novel directory-less architecture fo r efficient resource discovery. The proposed scheme is deploying Multicast Ad-Hoc On-Demand distance vector MAODV as its routing protocol and providing a cross layer resource discovery mechanism built on top of MAODV. We choose MAODV as it is an effective and efficient multicast routing protocol designed for mobile wireless ad hoc networks. One of the major strengths of MAODV is its capability to operate both as a unicast and a multicast routing protocol. This versatility of MAODV can increase netw ork efficiency as th e network can handle both unicast and multicast tra ffic with one protocol. In our approach, we first build up the small world of each node with Resource List Table (RLT). The small world consists of neighboring group nodes within a specific number of hops (say R) around the node. We then deal with scalability by providing an efficient mechanism for communications between small worlds. The use of RLT and small world concepts help to build an efficient mechanism for successful resource discovery for interactive applications on MANETs. Ou r approach shows considerably better performance than the conventional approach based on MAODV. This thesis verifies the claims by producing a detailed analysis of th is approach on various scenarios of MANET.
