dc.description.abstract Mobile IPv6 provides IP layer m o bility m a na gem e nt for IPv6 networks. Despite m a ny advantages it offers in co m p arison to Mobile IP v4, handover m a nage m e nt still rem a ins an issue for Mobile IPv6. For real-tim e conn ections, the handover latency and signaling overhead incurred by the protocol m a y become significant. This res e arch presents a new m e thod na m e d “Cross-over MAP based Hierar chical Mobile IP v6” (XMAP-HMIPv6) which inherits th e advantage of Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 of reducing signaling load for inte r-dom ain m obility. W e incorpor ate an ana l ytical m odel for the perf or m a nce analysis of this new schem e along with som e existing ha ndover m a nagem e nt proposals. Based on this analytical model, we for m ulate handover latency and signaling overhead costs as evaluation m e trics. Finally, we present analyt ical results in different environm ents and com p are our protocol with the other existing pr o posals. The analytical model results show that, our schem e perform s al m o st sim ilar to [F+H]MIPv6 in term s of reducing handover latency and outperform s both HMIPv6 and MIP v6.
