This page describe wireless Ethernet access in CSIM facility.

CSIM is using Lynksys E3000 dual band access points with DD-WRT firmware. It's providing up to 600 Mbps connection through 802.11n.

CSIM has a complete coverage of the building with wireless Ethernet based on five access points. Every room is now accessible through WiFi.

Virtual Wireless

Installing DD-WRT firmware allows us to deploy virtual wireless where each access point can advertize multiple independent networks. Each access point is configured to advertize two wireless networks: AIT-CSIM and AIT-NON-CSIM.

AIT-CSIM
shares the same network as the cable network in CSIM, it offers the same features as CSIM cabled network, with access to CSIM servers and authentication through a CSIM account. Android users can use the application that gives automatic authentication. You can also create a x509 identity for a one click connection.
AIT-NON-CSIM
shares the same network as the rest of AIT, authentication is made using AIT account. An AIT colleague visiting CSIM facilities can use the network AIT-NON-CSIM to access Internet, with no need for a specific account in CSIM.
The rules and limitations for accessing Internet are the ones that apply for AIT in general.
eduroam
(education roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. It allows you to obtain Internet connectivity across CSIM and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening your laptop. You can follow the instructions on this page to set-up eduroam on your device.
When visiting another university, no need to request for a user name and password to acces Internet; you connect with your CSIM credentials and you are through.
In CSIM, The number of connections to eduroam is very limited, and designed for visitors only; the rules and limitations for accessing Internet are the ones that apply for AIT in general.

The logs were reccorded with WirelessMon 3.0, from PassMark Software, trial version. The 5GHz band is not showing WiFi n because the notebook is limited to 802.11 a/b/g.

The graphs were reccorded with WiFi Analyzer for Android, from farproc. The 5GHz band is not showing because the tablet is not dual band.
