HP 5015x Updated

\\banyan\magnum PCL
\\banyan\magnum PS
(prefered choice)

Note: The users of Windows Vista should use the printer \\banyan\magnum PCL vista and install the driver by manually.

On Win2000-XP, you need to have administrator priviledges to add the new printer. Each user then need to individually make the printer accessible in his/her own environment.

The drivers for the printer are installed automatically by Samba server, the printer should need no further configuration.

In case the drivers do not intall automatically

The drivers for the printer are located on the network, in \\banyan\Application\DRIVERS\HP4015x which is usually bound to the drive J:. There is one subdirectory, corresponding to Win2000-XP and Vista technologies. And there is a choice between PCL 5 or 6 and PostScript driver. Although is is usually highly advised to select the PostScript driver, this driver is currently broken, you should use PCL6 driver. Do not install the PostScrip driver.

The drivers are generic for the serie 4010 that can comprise several options. So you must customize the driver to enable the 3rd paper tray and the duplexing unit (printing on both side). Only the administrator needs to do that.

First select the printer, from the printer control panel, and right click to go to the Properties.

If you have installed both PCL and PostScript drivers, you will have to modify both drivers!

When you have finished modifying the Device Settings, you must Apply the changes. Then you can modify the Printing Defaults under Advanced properties.

In case the drivers do not intall automatically

The drivers for the printer are located on the network, in \\oak\Application\DRIVERS\HP4300dtn which is usually bound to the drive J:. There are three subdirectories, corresponding to Win9x, Win NT and Win2000-XP technologies. And for each operating system, there is a choice between PCL and PostScript driver. It is highly advised to select the PostScript driver.

The drivers are generic for the serie 4300 that can comprise several options. So you must customize the driver to enable the 3rd paper tray and the duplexing unit (printing on both side). Only the administrator needs to do that.

First select the printer, from the printer control panel, and right click to go to the Properties.

PostScript drivers for Windows XP

When you have finished modifying the Device Settings, you must Apply the changes. Then you can modify the Printing Defaults under Advanced properties.

PCL driver for Windows XP

When you have finished modifying the Device Settings, you must Apply the changes. Then you can modify the Printing Defaults under Advanced properties.

For Windos98

To update the PostScript driver, choose the Device Options tab and make sure that Tray 3 is set to the 500 sheet input tray and that Duplex unit is installed.

If you have the PCL driver, you need to modify the Configure tab, ckecking the box on the Duplexing unit and adding a 500 sheet optional paper source.

HP 8500

On Win2000-XP, you need to have administrator priviledges to add the printer. Each user then need to individually make the printer accessible in his/her own environment.

For Win2000-XP-Vista you should use the installation software that is found on our network, in \\banyan\application\DRIVERS\hp8500\WinXP which is usually bound to the drive J:.

This software will install the printer driver as well as the TWAIN driver for the scanner. The software installation will request that you reboot the computer.

For mac OS X you should use the installation software that is found on banyan, in /home/pc-application/DRIVERS/hp8500/Mac OSX.

For Unix, the printer is accessible but is lacking the proper driver, so forth, it is only working in monochrome, and while it can print PostScript and PDF files, it presents no advantage over other laser printers.

Adding a printer to Samba

Add the new printer to Samba configuration

Edit the Samba configuration file smb.conf (usually located in /usr/local/etc/smb.conf) to add the new printer:

[sec PCL]
 	comment = HP2200dn PCL in #123
 	printer name = sec
 	path = /tmp
 	printable = Yes
 	use client driver = No
printer admin = on, sanjeet, adul, root
 	default devmode = No

Upload the driver to Samba

On a Windows XP machine, connect with Samba administrator account, in CSIM it should be "User Name: root" "Domain: SAMBA". Open Windows Explorer and addcess to the directory Printers and Faxes of the samba server: \\banyan\Printers and Faxes

Right click on the background of Windows Explorer window and choose "Server Properties" from the contextual menu.

Select the index "Drivers" and proceed to add a new drivers on the Samba server.

You will see that the files of the new driver are copied to \\banyan\print$\M32X86

On Samba server, you can check that new files have been added to the directory defined in the path of the share print$. For Windows XP, the files are added in the subdirectory M32X86.

On Samba server you can use the following command to get the list of installed drivers:

# rpcclient -U'root%******' -c 'enumdrivers' banyan

[Windows NT x86]
Printer Driver Info 1:
Driver Name: [HP LaserJet P4010_P4510 Series PCL 6]

Printer Driver Info 1:
Driver Name: [HP LaserJet 4300 PS]

Printer Driver Info 1:
Driver Name: [HP LaserJet 4300 PCL 6]

Printer Driver Info 1:
Driver Name: [HP Universal Printing PS]

#

Assign a driver to the new printer

On the Samba server, use the following command to assign one driver to one printer:

# rpcclient -U'root%*****' -c 'setdriver sec\ PCL HP\ LaserJet\ 4300\ PCL\ 6' banyan
Successfully set sec PCL to driver HP LaserJet 4300 PCL 6.
#

Note that if the name of the printer of the name of the driver contains any space, they are escaped with \.

Configure the driver for the printer
